Concord Carlisle Marketplace

The Concord Carlisle Marketplace is an online bulletin board where farmers can post goods for sale, and buyers can agree to purchase them. The Concord Carlisle Marketplace platform is a Google document showing real-time availability and is open to all who would like to participate. See below to gain access.

This fall we will be using the Marketplace to make connections between farmers and the Concord and Carlisle Public School meal programs, the Colonial Inn (hosting A Taste of Historic Concord on November 5th) and any other interested buyers.

The marketplace exists to help connect farms with wholesale buyers and facilitate transactions in an efficient way. This will especially benefit growers who don’t often use the wholesale channel by allowing them to sell larger quantities than they can to their retail customers.

Buyers will have access to more local farms without the need to directly contact them on a regular basis to check for availability. The dynamic nature of the marketplace helps to match supply and demand in what can be an unpredictable market.

This platform is in beta/pilot stage. If this platform is successful, further resources will be dedicated to build a more robust online platform.

How it Works

  • To gain access to the platform, please email project lead Ian Calhoun at 80 Thoreau, ian[at]80thoreau[dot]com. He will give you simple instructions.
  • The sheet has tabs for the marketplace, as well as buyer and seller info. Please add your organization to the info sheets.
  • Sellers can post goods for sale. Please try to post by noon the day before delivery.
  • Buyers claim goods by 6:00 A.M. the day of delivery. For now there is room for up to three buyers, so if the offer is for 30 pounds of eggplant, and one buyer claims 15 pounds and a second buyer claims 10, there would not be more than 5 pounds for the last buyer. Growers may place minimums.
  • Logistics are settled on the sheet, with growers deciding if they will deliver or not. On the info tabs delivery parameters can be established.

We are eager to develop a more robust platform to scale this opportunity to other members of the food system, including institutions. Please email concordfoodcollaborative[at]gmail[com] with any questions or ideas.
